Perhaps our OOo developers could tell us what the consequences for the

My impression is there's a core part, that contains functions shared among
the various apps and the components required by the individual apps.
 Modules do not mean you can't have common components. Take a look at the
OOXML specs to see the disaster caused by bundling discrete apps into one
package and calling them "integrated".

James, I grant your point, but to refine my query a bit, would it be
feasible to either include the core in each of the OOo suite apps, with a
device to make certain that it isn't installed several times in the event a
users downloads and installs several apps - e g, Writer, Calc, and Impress -
or to download and install a separate core first, and then the specific
application(s) (without the core) requested by a user ? Would this be so
difficult and complicated to do that the advantages of the flexibility
discussed on this thread would be outweighed ?...

Henri

According to what I've read here, there won't be much of a savings in download size or disk space required, but doing what you suggest will greatly increase the complexity of providing the packages, considering that OpenOffice is available for a selection of operating systems and a wide variety of languages.
