Michelle, I realize that this is not a complete or ideal solution, but
I'm sure you realize that by far the majority of users who show up as
unsubscribed do not use any other mechanism to receive replies, and must
currently be explicitly copied on messages to see responses. Those of us
BUT (!!!) if they write here, HOW do they know this list?
It seems they are reading this list over a Mailinglist-Archive!
And of course as I have already written, If I send "Cc:", I get 2 of 3
back as Bounce, Reject or SPAM!!!
If someone write here, he/she should deactivate this crap!
I am on over 130 mailinglists, mainly developer lists, but this list
is the only one where I am tagged as spamer and they are at least two
peoples which have tried to list my NEW domain (registered for some
days) on several "Anti-Spam" services since I have goten several 100
Spam-Trap messages which are coming into my "abuse", "postmaster" and
"root" accounts which are then forwarded to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
Such things are not realy funny...
The list used to be mentioned in the Help installed with OOo, so it was
a natural place for total newbies to come. It was also very visible from
the "new users" link (I think it was called) on the site's home page.
But in trying to put together this answer I found that they've changed a
lot! The installed help points to a new home page, and most notably, the
description of the mailing list on the Support page now has the following:
Users Mail List (Subscribe <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> /
Archives <http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/SummarizeList?listName=users>)
OpenOffice.org Project community support provided by a network of
hundreds of experienced users. You must be subscribed to post messages.
So far, at least, I've seen no evidence of enforcement for this "must be
subscribed to post" policy, though it's certainly been recommended many
times as being desirable. At this point, I'm not sure whether this
statement is true. Certainly it was not in the past, and there have been
a lot of discussions here about needing to cc, and how to identify
unsubscribed users to do so. Yes, there have been some complaints of
bounces when they try to cc, but I've answered quite a number of
questions and never had this happen. Nor have I ever been tagged as a
spammer. There may be something about the number of lists you're on that
makes this more likely, I don't know. Anyway, if this policy is enforced
there will be no need for the convolutions of the current process.
who try to do that are aware that you are in a special category, and
disregard the normal process in your case. If the Reply-To header were
modified as described, I'd just delete your address before replying,
which would be far less cumbersome than copying and pasting the address
of each typical unsubscribed user, as must be done now. Sometimes I
forget to do it, and many other responders don't know to copy them or
don't choose to do it, and these responses are missed by the OP unless
forwarded by another user..But the whole issue for you comes about
because you have a very badly filtered account that you use for sending
messages to this list, without subscribing that account.
The mailinglist is outdated and does not support the "nomail" option.
Updating to at least majordomo version 2 will give more benefit.
Many other users also use newsreaders or other mechanisms to follow the
discussions here, but they seem to have no similar problem. Perhaps some
of them can describe what they do to avoid it. One solution would seem
to be to subscribe the account, then set up a filter for messages coming
from the list (easy to do in any decent e-mail client). You could set it
Do you know, how much you pay for GPRS? 0.009 Euro/kByte
I have to read this list from several accounts, which mean, I have to
subscribe at least 4 times...
The issue is not how many accounts you read the list from, but how many
you use to write to it -- and as far as I can tell, there's only one of
those. That would be the only one for which a subscription is
recommended (now) or required (in the future).
would probably appreciate your subscription, also, though they've
probably already accommodated you by modifying their normal process,
too, so that your messages don't get unnecessarily delayed.
??? -- What do you mean?
Right now, all your messages are first delivered to "moderator for
[email protected]" for review before they get to the list. I believe
you recently got a message from one of the moderators (Paul) about that.
