Huh?! I have version 2.4.1 and I can read and write docx documents just
fine. Although it may be some plug-in I have and don't know about, but I
searched my operating system's repositories and didn't find anything. I
just assumed OpenOffice was just being great, as always.

I think you must have a plugin - AFAIAA the only version to open docx files
natively is Beta 3.....
