Not all OpenOffice.org 2.4s are created equal.
If you have OpenOffice.org 2.4 downloaded from www.OpenOffic.org then it
has no internal support for .docx files.
If you have OpenOffice.org 2.4 built from the source code repositories
at Go-OO.org then you do. The binaries that are derived from the
alternative code base include:
Novell's OpenOffice.org
OxygenOffice
Many ( not all ) Linux distribution repositories.
The OpenOffice.org distributed at www.openoffice.org will begin to
include docx support with the release of version 3.0.
