My company's medical practice management software makes use of
Writer for all documents and letters it produces, incorporating the
letterhead of individual practices. I set the letterhead as a "base
document" within the software so that every newly-created document
defaults to the letterhead.
I have one client whose letterhead has a wide graphic on the left
side of a standard 8.5X11 sheet. The margins for letterhead (first
page) are left 2.4 inches, top 1.75 inches. Works fine for one page documents.
My question - If the document is two or more pages, how can I make
the margins on the additional pages (which have no graphics) a more
standard dimension (say 1.0 inches for both left and top) within
affecting the specialized look of the first page which has the letterhead?
This is fairly straightforward. Margins are a property of page
styles, so you need to apply a different page style to your first
page from that for subsequent pages. You can either use existing
page styles provided within Writer - perhaps First Page and Default -
or create your own, possibly from existing ones. You can set the
margins differently for the two page styles, of course. The trick is
in the Next Style parameter, which you can find on the Organizer tab
of the page style dialogue. You will see that First Page has
"Default" set as its Next Style, whereas Default has "Default" set as
its next style. The result of this is that when your material spills
over onto a second page, that automatically takes on the Default page
style. Any subsequent pages will stay with the Default style. If
you create your own styles, you will need to set these Next Style
parameters appropriately.
I trust this helps.
