the new version? In the current stable version, the comments are

Track changes has not changed, but yes, notes are indeed now displayed
on the side of the page.
Well, it has changed a bit for Calc. THey now support collaboration,
which uses track changes.

One other query. Is there any work on a grammar checker in OOo? I know
many people think this is not necessary since the authors should know
the grammar to begin with. However, such a tool is very useful to find
inadvertent and silly mistakes many of which involve usage of a
different word with similar spelling ('there' in place 'their' for
example) due to typos. Moreover, it is better to bring an author's
attention, specially students writing reports, to questionable grammar
to let them decide than to give no indication at all.
I have seen a grammar checker in Pavel's build but I haven't tried it
and I am not sure if it covers the English language.

The Grammar check API is not yet completed, but it has advanced
sufficiently, that the existing grammar checkers will switch to use that
API as soon as OOo 3.0 is released. When I say that they will switch to
use it, I mean that they already do use it, but they have not yet
released those to the public...
The nice thing about these, is that grammar "errors" will then be
highlighted in blue rather than red. MS Office uses green, which looks
red to people that are color blind.
