Further to James Post.

The reason you will not save a lot of space is that OpenOffice.org is a
single tightly integrated program.

Hard disk space is seen as comparatively cheap these days.

If you do only use OO.o for text functions why aren't you working in a
text editor?

If you use it for low complexity Word Processing only then Abiword may
be more your style. If you use complex Word Processing techniques then
OpenOffice.org or a DTP program like Scribus may be more relevant.
