Hey guys,

I am just new to openvz and can't figure out how to create a debian vz template.
This is what I did so far:
Install debians 2.6.26 openvz kernel from the etch backports repository.
Install pkg-cacher, vzpkg2 and vztmpl2-debian from repo.opensource-sw.net.

The documentation talk about yum and rpm every. This confuses me a bit. I run Etch on my HN and also intend to use it in the VEs.

As I understand it, I have to create a template cache now using vzpkgcache.
When I simply type "vzpkgcache", this is the output:
# vzpkgcache
ERROR: Cannot create /var/lib/vz/lock/100001.lck lockfile
ERROR: Can't find free VE ID
ERROR: Cannot create /var/lib/vz/lock/100001.lck lockfile
ERROR: Can't find free VE ID
ERROR: Cannot create /var/lib/vz/lock/100001.lck lockfile
ERROR: Can't find free VE ID
ERROR: Cannot create /var/lib/vz/lock/100001.lck lockfile
ERROR: Can't find free VE ID
ERROR: Cannot create /var/lib/vz/lock/100001.lck lockfile
ERROR: Can't find free VE ID
ERROR: Cannot create /var/lib/vz/lock/100001.lck lockfile
ERROR: Can't find free VE ID

When I supply "debian-etch" as template name, I tells me this:
# vzpkgcache debian-etch
Warning: No debian-etch OS template found for x86_64 architecture
ERROR: OS template debian-etch (debian-etch-x86_64-default) not found

Also in the precreated template caches on openvz.org I can only find an i386 version of debian. However I am running on amd64. Could someone hint me on how to create an template cache for debian etch on amd64?

Any help appreciated,
Samy

You also need to install vzctl.

The template name would be something like:
   debian-etch-amd64-minimal
