The current versions of Firefox and Thunderbird disable old and outdated (e.g. insecure) ciphers. Perhaps your server's HTTP daemon is not offering new (secure) enough ciphers? This could be the case if you set up this server already long time ago and never cared to update the cipher settings (perhaps even code updates may be required).
