This works for me:

final Link signOutLink = new Link("signOutLink")
        {
            public void onClick()
            {
                getSession().invalidate();
                setResponsePage(getApplication().getHomePage());
                setRedirect(true);
            }

            public boolean isVisible()
            {
                return ((MySessionClass)getSession()).isSignedIn();
            }
        };

I put that in my "base page" class so that it's visible everywhere.
