I used the:
#if($displayDocExtra&& !$isGuest)
#template("docextra.vm")
<div class="clearfloats"></div>
#end
method in 'docextra.vm' template and now things are working fine :-)
Also the link that was given states how to change the background image
as well which am going to attempt soon....
