As I said before, this government will use NAFTA to promote US standards and
measures. Bush won't push metric on American business. The first step is
to push FFU on the world. If and only if the world rebels against FFU and
DEMANDS that the USA use only SI when dealing with the world, will the US
government back down and try to convince US industry to convert. As long as
America can get away with using FFU in the world market, it will continue to
do so.
Don't expect miracles!

Well, regarding the two parties, I would agree that our current president
has done zilch to advance our cause, but I am fearful that Bush will be
even less receptive to metric progress. Certainly we should give the man a
chance, and encouragement, and everything else we can. But I would be
surprised to read about any pro-metric news from the incoming
administration. But on the other hand, I think he is pro-NAFTA, which
shows some forward thinking on free trade and the like.
I, and I think most Democrats, are hopeful, but are like people from
Missouri: "Show Me".
