Technically, the UK never had any colonies. They belong directly to the
British Crown, Australian Crown or New Zealand Crown (Queen Elizabeth in
all cases, of course).

Colonies are regarded as 'Dependent Territories'. But not all dependent
territories are colonies. For example, the Channel Islands and the Isle
of Man are not part of the UK nor are they colonies, but they are Crown
dependent territories.
