This isn't that outrageous. The feed you watched was the "World Digital Feed" and will show only kilometers, k/mh, etc. The announcers usually mix in miles and mph....especially Speed Channel (formerly Speedvision). They've even converted their rally coverage which used to be stated in kilometers, to using miles. It's annoying, and I've emailed them several times about it.
