Originally, the EU law banning all non-metric contents declarations on
labels was to go into effect on 2000-01-01. But, the TABD fought it tooth
and nail and was able to get a 10 year extension. They wanted a
cancellation of the directive, but the EU said no. So, the law goes into
effect in a little over 7 years. Some feel in 2009, the TABD will attempt
to demand a further extension.

This was just a simple explanation. It is actually more complex.
