I don't believe this reasoning.  That is more likely the excuse given to justify continuing with old units.  There could be more practical reasons, such as the media continues to use it and people want to compare themselves with sex symbols.  If the sex symbols switched to SI only and made it appear that real sexy people use SI and only duds and losers used fFU , you'd see a switch over-night.

Other reasons is that clothing sizes are still in FFU and tape measures are still available in FFU.  Get rid of the inch sizing and tape measures and you will also see a switch to SI.  Oh sure, people will back convert for awhile, but eventually it will become a tiring nuisance and the practice will end.

As long as it is easy to use FFU, the practice will continue.  Make it difficult, and the practice will end.

If it means anything, the personals ads I've seen in Canadian newspapers all give wombat measurements for the posters.  So, too, do the birth announcements.  For some reason people still want to compare themselves or their babies to their ancestors.  Culture with regard to body measurements dies really, really hard.

P.S.  How do you express "DD" in SI?
