John: Before I leave, I feel that I have to respond to some points you bring up here.
First of all, today was the first time I have spoken up about the off topic comments on this list. I kept my mouth shut through a month of brawl here in May 2001 when I spent valuable (money-wise) time while in Latvia downloading an enormous number of emails from this list. As you may remember most of those emails were attacks on Jim's stance on government forced metrication. I kept my mouth shut through many other discussions, which have nothing to do with metrication. The calendar reform discussion has been going on for a very long time, for example. Second, I disagree with a concept that if there is nothing to report (whether news or ideas that deal with metrication), then we should flood this list with something off topic. That is a very foolish idea indeed. This list was designed with a specific purpose, and such purpose should be observed, IHMO. Third, I never said that I didn't have time. Please re-read what I wrote. I said, that "I am honestly tired of cleaning up my mailbox of junk emails, which have nothing to do with metrication in general and that in the United States in particular." If you are to attack a person, please have your facts straight, and don't twist them to fit your argument. Same goes to your accusations of one's going to porno sites. On the one hand, you have no proof (see my comment above), and on the other hand, it is none of anyone's business. Your insinuations, John, don't withstand any criticism! You know, it seems the ones who complain the most about the "off-topic" subjects that appear now and then are the ones who seldom or never make any comments. If all of you lurking in the back ground want to keep this site on topic, then CONTRIBUTE something. Anything!! Or SHUT UP! It is very difficult for a few people to keep discussions that are on topic going, day in and day out, especially when there is no real news. We need those people who lurk in the back ground to bring ideas and news to us so we can discuss them. That is what will keep this service on topic. And, don't tell me you don't have time. That is Bullshit. You have time to go to the porno sites, then you have time to contribute here. I will ignore all future complaints from those who do not contribute to this site on a regular basis. John
