Indeed. It makes no sense as a reference to the language 'English' or to
the country 'England'.

English speaking people in England do not use the US pint.

If it is a reference to US colonial history then this also makes no
sense. The colony was a *British* colony under a *British* king, not an
English colony under an English king.
