Dear Matthew and All, I just consulted the thesaurus in Microsoft Word for the word 'mass'.
This produced these single syllable options: lump, hunk, chunk, piece, and batch. I then looked up the first of these, lump, and the thesaurus added these options: gob, clump, wad, clod, and bit. Of this unlikely lot, I think that I prefer 'lump' as a potential name for a unit of mass to replace the kilogram. Besides the rich social connotations of the word 'lump' itself, I also think that 'millilump' and 'kilolump' have a certain resonance. Besides, maybe units should be fun. The "kg" replacement (in 100 > years) would have to be monosyllabic. <snip>
