We bought a new kitchen range (a stove, or in Britain a cooker) Sunday and it was delivered today.
One of the first things I did was to reset the digital oven control to readout in degrees Celsius. All my lovely wife asked for was a crib sheet to use for a week or so until she got used to the new numbers. So, one has been posted and it will soon disappear to a nearby drawer until it is forgotten and neglected entirely. By the way, Sally routinely measures lengths in meters (with the appropriate prefixes for the scale of the task). She handles volumes and masses fluently in metric units, as well. Of course, her background as a Registered Dietitian has helped there. Oh, harking back to the "accuracy" question. This is not, strictly speaking, an answer to the question asked but it relates. When this range's baking temperature is set in degrees Fahrenheit, the scale runs up in 5 F increments. When it is set in degrees Celsius, the scale runs up in 1 C increments. So, we have greater oven temperature control (but not accuracy) in Celsius than we do in Fahrenheit. Most recipes are not that sensitive, but what a neat benefit anyway! Jim -- James R.
