To all,

Joe invited me to dinner at his home when I was in Toronto in October 1999. Several
of his neighbours were present at the dinner table too. We all had a great time. At
that time he lived in a Victorian neighbourhood near downtown Toronto and most of the
conversation revolved around what it is like to live in Toronto. I remember we had
red wine, pork chops, peas and mashed potatoes. I was told not to feed the dog. He
will be missed.

This is, indeed, sad news. I never met Joe, but over the past few years on
this list, he has always been such a polite, knowledgeable and consistent
contributor, I am sure many of us feel like we've come to know him a bit.

In the 2000 election cycle, Joe, knowing my libertarian beliefs, mailed me
some newspaper clippings from (I believe) the Toronto Star, discussing some
libertarian-leaning candidates in Canada. How many of us, with our busy
lives, take the time to pay attention to others and perform such thoughtful
gestures?

Joe Reid certainly lived a full and fruitful life, and he will certainly be
missed.
