I would like to test ~50 randomly-selected Americans by asking them to put 1.7 ounces of water in a glass, then measure how close they got. Then test the same number Europeans who grew up with the metric system, this time asking for 50 ml. I'll bet that it's possible to demonstrate that over all, people in metric countries have a better feel for SI units than Americans do for customary units. And that would be an effective counter to arguments about customary units being more intuitive or more human.
