I am not anti-metric. But I am not anti-imperial either.
If that means what I think it means then we're back to square one.
This is what disturbs me. That people can be "against" or "anti" the
word inch, mile etc. So much so as to call it names ("FFU"), deny it
exists, call for its "destruction" or "irradication", make out that it
harms children or simply claim that a social underclass uses it. That
sentiment causes much harm to proper metric advocates who'd like to see
metric prompoted in a more positive way.
You'll be glad to here that ex-USMA list-serv user "euric" (amongst other
names) has now been banned from the BWMA forums. Despite laughing at his
claims I always thought that he was the best asset to any pro-imperial
group or organisation!
I try all the time to be positive about metric. I try to promote it on its
merits without necessarily knocking imperial. But it just falls on deaf ears
with some people. I guess the problem is I (perhaps like Euric) spend too
much time debating with those who actively oppose it. That can distort
things and it does.
People who (like BWMA) stand up for imperial ironically give it a bad name
because they force a passionate debate by being so irrational about it. In
the end those who try to promote metric end up despising imperial because of
it. They don't start out that way though.
I was going to answer all your other points but I'm not going to bother. I'd
be just wasting my time.
