There was a good letter in the Metro newspaper in London today, which read:

"I have just moved back to the UK after living abroad and I was impressed to
see Metro using metric. It makes your paper much more straightforward and
progressively British."

I have to say that I have read The Metro (a free paper available at Tube stations) and it is not metric. It might have used metric in an item (or items) but that hardly makes it a metric newspaper.
I find that snippet odd.

BTW- My opinion on the "bus ticket example" could be extended to murder - I don't see that as relevent as me asking for a pound of apples. There is not a "one size fits all" law when it comes to freedom of choice - its too "fluid".

And to say most of the people in the world may use kilos is very true - but most people outside Wales speak English - it does not mean that Welsh should be outlawed within Wales.
