When I'm using my Camcorder, I say I am videotaping. If and when I upgrade to an HD unit with recording on high-definition DVD, I'll probable use the generic, medium-independent "shooting," which is what I should really be doing now. I'm certainly not going to say "videodisking."

Also, we still refer to filming the scene even when no photographic film is used.
... and we dial telephones that no longer have "dials".
... and we say our phones ring when they vibrate or play the 1812 Overture.

I would try to get rid of phrases like "footage" because they confuse the difference between the quantity being measured and the unit used to measure it. (Can we measure film footage in metres?) But I'm less concerned about the use of generally archaic terms which no longer are strictly correct. Have you ever buttered your toast with margarine?
