So, if we're going to get into this properly and build up an interest in
metrication from our politicians (and the general public as well), we're
going to need to be a lot more organized about it.

To this end, I've started a web page (wiki based) where we can all
collaborate. This will allow us to share information and feed off each
others successes. My basic goals when starting this were:
* Make it easy for multiple people to work on the same data
* Make it easy to work together to collect information about politicians
and companies with respect to their positions on metrication (and, by
posting any information we get to a centralized place, we can leverage
that in future communications with that entity)
* Make it easy for *anyone* (whether they're interested in formally
joining our group or not) to get involved.
* A centralized place to co-ordinate pressuring companies and
politicians (both of which are more likely to respond if lots of
people contact them pushing for metrication).
* A place where we can put pro-metric presentations. There should be no
reason why a decent presentation can't be given by multiple people.
  Let's make it easy...
* A calendar so we can plan events and note important dates.

As you'll see when you visit, I've been working on this for a couple of
months and I'm just releasing it generally now. Currently, the front
page contains 2 main sections:
* A blog: to present news and opinion
* A "Company of the Week" section: listing the company we're going to be
contacting this week and companies we've previously contacted (and,
just because you didn't contact a company when they were the comany of
the week doesn't mean you can't contact them today!). As the name
says, this should be a new company every week.

Most of the site is open. If you create an account you can create or
modify pages as you see fit (including posting blog entries of your own,
but please keep it metric related).

The only two things that are restricted are editing the front page and
adding a new company of the week (editing current company of the week
pages is ok). Obviously, the front page is to avoid defacement. The
company of the week is this way until we decide what the best way to
handle this is (for the moment, I'll post the company of the week every
weekend and we can discuss what's going to be the next one either on a
wiki page or on this/some other mailing list).

With that, here's the URL:

This is all my own work over the last few months and, like most people,
I only have so many ideas. If you've got ideas about things to improve
the site or suggestions on the direction we should be headed, let me
know (or let us all know).

Note, this is currently on my home DSL (768kbps upload). Once we get
enough traffic to justify it, I'll fork out for co-location.

Let's make this happen!

Regards,
Paul Armstrong
