I thought still the law said you must have both MPH and km/h on the display for US cars. Although many a car has fooled this metric list (those are aren't car people usually.) by thinking the car doesn't have both, but that it actually does.
Many cars now can electronically switch between the two modes. GM cars for the past 5 or 6 years have done this. As a result, when you get in, there is one set of numbers and people think (oh man! They got rid of the km/h.) But there is a switch that will switch it to km/h. I'm sure this is the case in the Mercedes now as well.
