Bill, In e-mail promoting SI to editors in the USA, the *availability* of NIST SP 330 and of SP 811 from the Internet is worthy of recommendation.
These two sources are missing from your discussion of symbols vs. abbreviations. Editors in the USA might be more responsive to these two NIST documents than to the BIPM booklet, especially if they encounter the French version. Gene.
