The France v Britain thing predates the EU stuff1 :-) These days it's rivalry - to be sorted out on a rugby pitch every year (6-nations)!! I want the UK to leave the EU - I don't like the EU - but I see the EU as a political thing rather than a 'pseudo-country'. Conversely I love Europe - a collection of very different countries (or used to be).
