"I know the truth is somewhere in the
middle"

Oh dear, Mr Humphrey's is in mischief mode
again.....serves me right for rising to it, I suppose. :-)

You don't know the truth is in the middle Steve,
because it's a total non-story that's been completely made up! It has no
basis in fact whatsoever. It is complete and utter bunkum of the
highest order. It has the same degree of truth as does the existence
of the Loch Ness monster and fairies at the bottom of the garden

But then...you're already aware of that, aren't
you? Go on Steve, I challenge you....prove otherwise :-)

Don't worry about me, Steve, I know the truth is somewhere in
the middle - I look behind the opinions of papers and labour luvvies (and yes
I saw that episode- I also saw an episode where Fry said 'give it to me in
imperial not that damn metric' (or words like that). For every story there is
something that triggers it - it just means getting to the heart of it. It
happens everywhere - probably in the USA too. Having said that most of
this is starting to become totally alien to most of the posters here (QI?,
Fry?, etc) so I'll shut up now!

Come off it, Steve...the story is total b******s!!
Excuse my frankness, but I loss patience with the press trying to give these
stories any type of creedence, probably with a sly wink!!

The brilliant QI programme on the BBC with Stephen Fry
once spent the latter half of one instalment devoted to exposing famous
anti-EU scare stories, including the kronk about straight bananas and
trawlermen having to wear hairnets. They exposed up to seven or
eight anti-EU stories that were later found to be completely false.
These stories only come about because they know they have a ready made
audience in the UK, especially in the Daily Mail, that are only too willing
to
  believe them.

Trust me, Steve...it's complete and utter
  kronk!!

Keep an open mind on it Steven - there may be some truth to
it - although I agree the press (incl the left) 'juice up' EU type stories
    to get a reaction.

The banana thing recently got repealed I believe. 'repealed' -
    humour in the bones, see?

Pat, this is yet another made up story from the
    usual right-wing lunatic fringe.

It joins a long line of anti-EU stories
including Britain having to have straight bananas, trawler fisherman having
to wear compulsory hairnets and trapeze artists forced to wear hard hats
due
to EU health & safety legislation......every last story complete and
    utter dreck, of course.

There is practically an emtire industry in the
UK press devoted to EU scare stories such as these which are, of course,
lapped up by gullible right-wing nut jobs.

Please Pat, and any other menbers if this
listserver, do NOT take this story seriously...it is complete rubbish from
    start to finish.
