John,

I had a conversation yesterday with Tina Lehr, coordinator of STEM education in
the Urbana Illinois School District.
I am pleased to report that Tina has a good knowledge of SI and is actively
promoting SI in the District's curricula.

There is hope for SI in the USA!

Interesting program. Teachers get short summer interships to sample the kinds
of jobs they are preparing students for.

On metric, one teacher says, "It was nice to take back examples of places they
could use this in the future. There are expectations of things, like the metric
system. Here it's just something we teach, but people are expected to know this
going into the job."

I'm glad he knows it now, but a little concerned that he didn't know it before
(he is a chemistry teacher).
