Martin,

Before the year 2020, we surely should be able to find sponsors of SI-only
legislation in Congress, by the demands of trading partners in the WTO alone,
if not a consequence of *proper* STEM education which emphasizes SI!

Amending the FPLA to *permit* metric-only labeling should, of course, be
accomplished first.

I expect to work relentlessly to accomplish both of these objectives.

Fortunately, as a retiree, I have the time to devote to these long-term goals.

Eugene-- I really don't think that's practical at the present time.
However, another suggestion was made by members on the USMA list that does
in fact seem practical:

From: John Steele
Amending FPLA for permissive-metric-only requires Congressional approval.
However, the assumption is NIST would recommend it to Congress.

From: Mark Henschel
NIST has prepared the legislation, but it first has to
be accepted by the Cabinet before being submitted for Congressional
action.

I would be willing to write my congressman on the Science, Space &
Technology Committee when NIST submits the recommendation to Congress.
This narrowly-defined, but important legislation might just have a chance
of passasge if the cabinet and NIST approves it.
