You are correct.  Since - unlike the US - we were still under the yoke of empire in 1824, the Imperial System reforms (including the change to the pint) were introduced here.  I don't see where I gave the impression we used US pints, but if so, I am happy to confirm your correction.

Actually, Imperial pints are only used in draught beer sold in pubs. Other liquids (e.g. milk, sodas, spirits) are all metric. Hopefully, they will go the same way as the other obsolete units in time.

My point about "Imperial" in Ireland was that the word always had a negative connotation in this country, whereas in yours it conjures up memories of a glorious past (more so, unfortunately, at the moment).  This is despite the fact that the notion of "Empires" is deprecated in more enlightened times.
