It seems that there is one petition like this several times per year, and it is no different than the previously failed one, so there is no chance of getting move votes if it has exactly the same approach as the failed one. Before posting a petition, please check with the community to get the wording correctly - Either here, or reddit, but more people will have to be involved in this before it is posted. Petitions are not only for people who are supposed to sign it, but they'd have to convince politicians who will later have to make a decision. -Basing a petition on emotions instead of reason won't work, and this one is written out of frustration and has too much irrelevant information to be considered reasonable to average person -Throwing complicated math and numbers won't convince anyone, especially not politicians -Calling it stupid and medieval will just make people more defiant -If a person who finished high-school 10 years ago doesn't understand it, they won't sign it (I work with arduinos and other hobby electronic projects and still don't use about coulombs and joules... and my wife and 99.999% or others will care even less about those) -When it is worded like this most of us would not put out name behind it even though we support the cause -No all caps, don't yell; Bernie would have done a lot more if he didn't yell all the time -Has to be concise and on point -Talk about what the politicians, average citizen and country will benefit from it -Talk about cost savings, job opportunities, exporting goods and services, maintenance costs -Maybe even talk that it is based on some british king's foot and that US had won the revolution for independence but US still uses it -Check the origins on Fahrenheit and how it was originally based on temperature of a small town in Germany (?) and not on some scientific phenomenon -See what other points make an average American think it makes it "freedom" unit and change their minds (and test on random people if it actually does) -Post about it on social media, one thing at a time, discuss on reddit, twitter, and forums and see what are the comebacks on each approach, adjust, and retry -Check petitions that have already collected large number of votes for similar category and see what their approach was -Read it to an average american who uses USCS, if they fold their arms at any point, start over, as the politician will do the same
I know it sounds like a lot of work, and it is. Probably a year worth of research and public opinion testing, and adjusting approach. If it was easy to convince people, we would have switched 30+ years ago and would here discuss petitions about plastics in foods, or something like that. You can also pay a good journalist to write it for you; see who already has written about it (but none of us here, someone not that invested and can write about it 100% objectively, and is not an electrician but an average Joe who knows the benefits of switching and how to talk to people about it without sounding angry or putting them down) - even better if the journalist's news house is pro cause and will be able to further promote it. There is probably a lot more to be said, but it should be good as a start...
