Hello all,
I've been having regular occurence of plug fouling since I bought my Max. It
came with Stage 1, K&N filter, and supertrap slip-ons (w/ 8 discs).
Supposedly his local dealership just did $300 worth of labor on the carbs.
He gave me the air filter box which contained 4 badly fouled plugs. After
having my plugs foul after 600 miles, then another 600 miles later, I
determined he must have gone through the same thing and didn't want to pay to
get the carbs fixed again. Note that my right front plug would always foul
first. Sometimes I would just replace it with one of my older plugs from any
of the other 3 cylinders until I had time to get new ones.
My bike would run really great and then slowly deteriorate until I
changed the plugs. Then it was like a new bike again.
So here is what I've done since:
1) added 6 more discs for increased air flow (supertrap recomended 14 total)
2) synched my carbs
3) removed Y piece from airbox
4) cleaned and reoiled air filter
It has been about 300 miles since all of this. My front right plug is
still worse than the others and it seems halfway to becoming totally fouled.
This bad one is black all over the porcelain and metal bar (electrode?). The
other 3 are black over half of the porcelain and tan over the other half.
The metal bar is black halfway up and uncovered at the top of the bar.

My question is what should I do to determine my problem? Should I stick a
new set in and do some sort of test, then adjust things? Maybe then I can
post results and ask what to adjust.

Thanks anyone who can help. Hopefully not everyone is at Bikeweek. I'm
planning on going next weekend. Just hope to get things set up right before
the ride.

Thanks,
Howie
