Have you removed brass plugs where pilot screws are? Do so and turn the screws
all the way in gently, taking note of exactly how many turns out each one was.
They will vary. Turn each one out 2.5 turns for starters and see if that helps.
You may need a little more, but start there. I also found the K&N filter
contributed to the lean flutter off idle on my '99 and I put the stock filter
back. Tyler Pennock advised me back then to ride for a while till the oil was
pulled from the K&N. I never did cause I just hated the difference. So when I
have to replace my stock filter I will give the K&N a longer run as he said.
You may be like me in that any tiny off idle hesitation or flat spot type feel
really angers me. Most "normal" riders wouldn't care but I am very fussy to
maintain the smoothest response right off idle without having to slip the
clutch too much.
