Removing Rear fender

Does anyone have any experience with the difficulties of removing the rear fender like 
I see lots of the Euro maxes doing.  I think it looks great and the only problem I can 
see would be with relocating the tail light and getting sprayed by the back tire on a 
wet road.  Anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks,
