Steve,
Sorry .. I was looking at a bunch of tachs here that met minimum
requirements. The Mallory Pro Tach I provides rev-limiting via a dial
on the face of the tach .. is 5 inch and has an 11K range. I assumed
and apparently incorrectly that the AutoMeter auto tachs provided a
similar option ... but I was not looking at the Cycle versions of the
AutoMeters because they didn't have an 11K model. For the AutoMeters
.. I was looking at the Pro-Comp 2 and the Ultimate playback series
which are both in the automobile section at their web site ......
After thinking about Sat Tara's comments in regard to these guys
living on a handlebar ... I am looking back at the VDO Extreme ...
which has the shift light under the dial glass ...
Of course ... I suppose you could get a rev-limiter ground off of any
"shift-light" device using an opti-isolator or scr on the lamp/led
feed but then you would have your rev-limiter kicking in at the same
time lamp lit ........ I suppose that would be OK .. if you had the
shifter preloaded and the throttle wide open ... as you would shift as
soon as the lamp lit ... hmmmmmm .. interesting concept ... Gotta have
one of these guys ... but I would still like to have a speedometer
with an odometer .. and have it look like it belongs on the bike. You
would think that with all the $500 helmets out there that we could get
a shift lamp or tachometer display projected on the face shield by now
... that is where that information belongs anyhow. Thetas the key to
getting everyone to wear helmets ... put the instrumentation in there
....
