It didn't affect the paint at all. The bottom is a very soft, well I'm not
sure what exactly, sort of like felt I guess.
One thing I learned though, is after a couple hours of riding, and you pull
up to the gas pump, you have to be very deliberate about swinging your leg
over the tail bag, or you'll be on your back in a heart beat. Luckily, the
first gas station I stopped at was in Oregon where you can't pump your own
gas, so there was an "attendant" there who caught me.
