Pere,
The float and/or it's needle stuck open from sitting too long because
you pissed little Max off by not riding him for a whole month.
Flooding the fuel bowl with fuel and tapping freed the float ... that
was probably stuck ... It then closed the needle valve and solved the
problem.
This is why little Max only runs his fuel pump for a few seconds when
you turn the key on ... When you actually started him ... the fuel
pump controller/relay said .... OK ... if he's happy were happy and
let the fuel pump make further decisions ... which means you get gas
until he hits a flow resistance ... (which will happen normally when
all the fuel bowls are full). One of the carbs on the left side
couldn't close the valve so it just pumped the fuel right out the vent
tube, (mounted on the top side of the airbox cover).
I don't know what to do to stop this ... except try to start the thing
at least once a week if you can't ride. Another thing you can do ...
is turn the key on without starting the engine ... you will hear the
pump run and then stop .... turn the key off and back on ... let the
pump run again ... after about the third cycle .. "key on .. key off"
.. the pump should no longer run ... indicating that the fuel bowls
are happy. If it still wants to run after the the third cycle then be
careful because he is pumping more than he should and it is going to
come out somewhere. Of course you could do "this" routine once a week
... even without starting the bike and it would keep "liquid" fuel in
the fuel bowl and prevent the valve or float from sticking. IMHO ....
