I know everyone keeps asking if you have the switch but it appears that it is 
not on your bike.   

I would look in a V-max service manual and trace the wires back to the fuse 
box.  Someone may have cut the wire and it could be grounding out on the 
frame.  My friend had the same problem on a Yamaha XT600.  Everytime he hit a 
large bump it would cut out.
