Kraig,
I have a '98 Max and when I put my Hindle on it what I found is that is you
ask 15 guys what is best you will probably get close to 15 answers. It
seems as though every Max is just a little bit different, every Max has
it's own personality.
I live in Northwest Kansas and had a couple of my fellow VMOA brothers from
Great Bend who had "been there done that" come up and help. We played with
my Max for hours but in my case anyway it seems to have paid off. We tried
the stock 152.5 along with 155, 157.5 and 160s. We had the needles all over
the place, we had the mixture screws all over the place. As I had no idea
what to expect I also bought 162.5 and 165 mains jets, but never needed them.
Where we ended up was with 157.5 mains, fuel mixture screws 1 turn out, and
the titanium needles in the first position from the flat side using a
Factory Pro Jet Kit.
I live 350 miles from the nearest Dyno, so I cannot speak to you of such
things. What I can tell you is that we played with it until it would pull
hard from any rpm, I have not fond a flat spot yet. It starts easy, idles
smooth, and pulls like a Striped Assed Ape from anywhere. I have just a
hint of surging when rolling through a residential area between 2000 & 3000
rpm. But the plugs look good and as soon as you wack it your gone.
