Sat Tara,
I have to update that web page .. since Yuasa has the correct size
20ah maintenance free battery in their lineup now. It is rated a
little over 150% of the stock battery capacity, (300 vs 190 crank amps
rating). I did purchase one of the 20ah batteries that is the correct
size to fit in the Exactrep battery case, (an xs1100 case). It is
currently running in the Virago ... since the Virago case will take
either size. The only difference is the thickness of the battery and
of course you pick up the extra weight. It was my intention to order
the case from Exactrep and try it in the Vmax but I simply have not
done so. The only review or recommendation that I have seen for this
combination is from Heny Doyle, (Exactrep), in the rear of one of the
previous issues of Vboost .. (and of course he highly recommended it).

The Vmax currently has an el cheapo Tuckner Rockny battery in it that
cost $50 .. it has been in almost a year now and works just fine ..
this is the first real replacement for this bike which is a 93 .. but
I did go about 6 months nursing the original before finally just
changing it out. I do have a headlamp switch though mounted on the
left front cowling, (where the throttle cables pass through). It is
wired in series with the headlamp fuse .. so when off it kills the
headlamp as well as the dash lamps .. This is a hold over from
Bandimere days ... when any effort being expended by the engine that
was not available to turn the rear wheel was eliminated. I also find
it very useful for garage servicing etc .. when it is not necessary to
have this load .. just because the key is on. Juice is juice .. what
comes out of course must be replaced .... I do connect the little
float charger if the bike sits more than a few days to keep the
battery peaked. The maintenance free batteries though are even less
trouble ... every month of so you check and make sure the voltage is
at least 12.8 volts .. if not you just give it 15-30 minuets of high
amperage and it is happy ... they appear to maintain a higher storage
voltage than regular batteries and recover very quickly once the bike
is actually operated. These batteries are well behaved, have an
unbelievable shelf/storage life and don't require any water
maintenance, (they are gel or something), and in the case of the
Virago were cheaper than the lead acid variety .. I suspect that soon
this will be all that is available and lead/acid will fade into
motorvehicle history. I think that 12 volts will fade away too .. it
appears that 36-42 volts is supposed to become the new standard, (by
your "Bolder Technology" stock now).
