The file format is JPG instead of IPG.
There is not a format for pictures that is IPG.
Another format that can be used if a format called GIF. Stands for
Graphical Interface Format. Came from a standard in the old days.
You are correct - BMP is not a good format to store you pictures in. Very
inefficient. This is inefficiency is the norm for a standard that comes
from Windows.
JPG is a format that stores the pictures in a smaller size by removing the
colors the human eye cannot pick up.
You will have to find a graphic editor that can support this format. A
commerical product called Paint Shop, (now in version 6) can support over 30
different formats.
