Hello fellow maxers,
It was the first time since I did the solid mounts that I took the bike on the highway
and tested it at maximum revs in fourth gear, for two main reasons. One to check the
carb/exhaust set-up and the main reason, to check the steadiness of the bike at high
speed in wide angle turns and poor or uneven surface.
The results were a deception to an extent, since the bike at times still weaves when
riding at speeds over 117 mph. I mean to an extent since the can be controlled and
overcome, but nevertheless still present.
To those who have the option of riding a real fast bike, the situation is clear. The
v-max is not meant to be ridden over the 100 mph, and that is even after making the
solid mount mod.
On my CBR 900 RR I do not feel the difference between 100 and 140 mph, it is just that
the road becomes more of a funnel shape, thus you have less time to correct errors,
but the bike is as steady as a rock. Sudden braking does not make you loose control.
On the Max, apart from the force of the wind on your chest, the whole bike has the
tendency to weave after going over any unevenness on the asphalt, but as I've said
before, it can be controlled and you never fail to overcome the unpleasant situation;
nevertheless you think twice before getting to the limit zone.
My next mod has to be to strengthen the rear swinging arm, but for the time being, if
I ever want to ride very fast I will take the CBR. For the rest the Max suits me best
and that is 90% of my riding.
PS. As I've said before the Max will outrun any bike up to 70 mph HONEST!! (at least
mine does).........
