A good helmet makes all the differance in the world.
I used to have a AGV $75 helmet. By the time I was done with my 4 hour non-stop
ride, going 80MPH with a 40MPH head wind(120MPH combined)the front of my neck was
KILLING me. That thing had vents all over it. It looked sharp but was minimal on the
face padding and cut the wind like a bus. At that speed the helmet would create lift
and start to want to lift off my head!
When I got the new Max, I ordered a Shoei RF-800 in Anthracite(a good color match
for the carbon Max's) for $250. MAN WHAT A DIFFERANCE! That thing cuts the wind like
a knife. No wobble, no lift. Tha face padding is approx. 2"'s thick. That makes a
good seal and cuts out alot of the wind/engine noise. It's only got one vent on the
top wuth a hole the size of a pencil, but it really works. Leave it open in the
winter, and it feels like someone is scalping you with a ice knife!!
I have a question foy you guys. Has anyone tryed the type of full helmet that the
chin guard rizes with the visor. It seems really popular with the Germans here at
Fort Bliss. On the basses you have to wear a "full face". This type fits the
requirement but still alows you to open it fully to a "open face" for these 115 degree
summers in the desert.
