Mike,
what i did was used thin round flat automotive electrical connectors. that
are the same size as the nylon screw used to hold the needle in place.
I used them as washers.
you will have to cut and shape them a little, but it worked for me.

with the clip in the third slot and a .020 shim the needle has
very little to no freeplay or movement in the slide assembly.
