No, don't worry. You've got another 10,000 miles before they're even due
for adjustment. Even when they're due, most find that they are within
specs. The "every 12,000 miles" may be correct for some bikes but not the
Vmax.
As for the carb synch, you can probably buy a synch tool for about what
you'll pay the dealer to synch them. Really simple procedure. If you can
turn a screw driver, you can synch your carbs. Takes maybe 10 minutes.
There are at least 4 different types of guages (mercury, stainless steel rod
type, round guage type, and the flow meter type). All get the job done and
are relatively accurate. Personally I'd stay away from the mercury type.
They're the cheapest but are easiest to break, spill the mercury, etc. I'd
opt for the CarbTune stainless steel rod type or the Synchrometer flow type
meter. Either of those will cost you around $75 and will last you for years
to come.
