Steve, and anyone else who may be interested. I fitted a pair of
calipers off a wrecked R1 yesterday. They had about 1500 miles on them.
I didn't get the original pads, the wrecker didn't leave them with the
calipers. (I got them from interstate) I fitted some new stock
replacement EBC Kevlar pads and found the brakes marginally stronger
needing less pressure but most importantly they actually have a nicer
more progressive feel. The overall improvement is not huge, but I am
going to either fit some new OEM pads or some EBC-HH pads (The HH pads
worked very well in the stock calipers). By the way to be sure we are
comparing an apple to an apple, I should point out my comparison is with
the stock calipers and HH pads compared to the R1's and Kevlar or stock
type pads, so the most valid comparison will be my next one using HH
pads in the R1 stoppers.
The R1 calipers look cool and save another couple of ounces of weight so
they are a great easy swap. I have ordered some Galfer braided hoses and
will evaluate their affect as well, but separately. I like to see what
each item does individually.
