The calipers on the R6, FZS600, FZX600S, and
XJR1300 are the same as the R1 items. I've also
heard that you can use the calipers from the YZF1000R
and the YZF600R.
I got my calipers from a wrecked '99 R1 with under 500
miles under it's belt. It had high sided it's rider
and then gone under a truck rear end first at speed.
Although the frame was twisted the front end was
virtually untouched.
They cost me 100 UK pounds and I also got the R1 m/cyl
and lines thrown in. I initially used the R1 m/cyl
but found it too harsh. There was no real progression
between gentle and full on braking. I therefore
reverted to the stock MAX m/cyl which is much more
progressive and retains the stock MAX look.
I used my Goodridge SS braided lines with no problems.
I did not get the rear R1 caliper as it was damaged.
I
also do not think it will fit without fabrication as
the rear caliper on the R1 is mounted under the swing
arm. This is a real shame as it would look good along
with the front calipers.
I retained the stock R1 pads that came with the
calipers. I also spoke to my dealer who had a
mountain of lightly worn R1 pads that had been changed
out on recall and he let me sort through them for
spares. He said that he had worked on over 200
recalled R1s and only 1 had been found with faulty
pads. He changed out all of the R1 pads anyhow. In
his, and my, opinion there is nothing wrong with the
majority of the used pads. I now have enough R1 pads
to last me several years of hard riding.
Hope this is of use.
Regards
Steve
